There is a place named Cisaat. It is located in Sukabumi, West Java. This village become one of the center of metal industri of West Java. Many locals work in this industry. Roof Tiles Factory

Once, I went to Jatiwangi, It’s a small district in Majalengka, West Java. A friend from Indonesia Kreatif Foundation introduced me a creative community named Jatiwangi Art Factory. Those who joined to this community are workers of roof tiles industries. Ya, Jatiwangi is a roof tiles industry area in West Java, and most of locals work in that industry. (more…)

Needlepoint of Intestine?

Beside cloth of Tapis, the people of Lampung also have embroidery of intestine. Wait, this is not a real intestine. They called it Sulam Usus (usus = intestine). Sulam Usus is a needlepoint with a distinctive motif, made from satin cloth that shaped as chicken intestine. It has a refined forms and classic models. (more…)

The Stamp Batik

Batik is a cloth that is traditionally made using a manual wax-resist dyeing technique (wikipedia). At the beginning, batik was known as an expensive item that only worn by the royal families and wealthy individuals. But now, batik is belonged to all classes and easily obtained. Due to advanced technology development, there are some techniques of batik with lower cost. Beside the hand-drawn batik, there are cheaper batik that created using screen-printing techniques and stamp-printing techniques. (more…)
