Puro Pakualaman

Puro Pakualaman is a Duchy Palace which is located to the east of the Sultan’s Palace. This palace is the residence of Sri Paduka Paku Alam IX and his families.

This palace was originally owned by Prince Notokusumo, the young brother of Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono II who were then sworn in by British Governor General, Sir Thomas Raffles on March 17, 1813 with the title of Kanjeng Gusti Pangeran Adipati Arya (KGPAA) Paku Alam I. Since then, the government of Pakualaman was began as an autonomous kingdom: having sovereignty, territory, people and symbols. Even during the reign of Paku Alam V was have its own military force. Paku Alam called Adipati/Duke as a autonomous king.

Currently Puro Pakualaman led by Sri Paduka Paku Alam IX. He was crowned on May 26, 1999 succeeded his father who died.
